Tarif Khalidi is the Shaykh Zayid Professor Emeritus of Arabic and Islamic studies at the American University of Beirut.  Previously, he was the Sir Thomas Adams’s Professor of Arabic and a fellow of King’s College, Cambridge. Born in Jerusalem, he now lives in Beirut, Lebanon.
